Dear Coach,

Have you ever considered there might be a slightly different language you could use to engage potential clients in the most important things in their lives?

You know, the topics that people are most interested in improving in their life, perhaps with you as a coach?

As you know, talking about coaching itself can be a challenge. So we at CoachVille like to use the metaphor of life as a game. We call this playing the games of life, and over the years, time has shown the language of playing a game in life to be very attractive to people. They immediately understand it, they like it because of the spirit of play it includes, and, they are easily able to say ‘yes, I want help winning the games of my life!’

The language of Playing the Game of Life also lends itself well to helping your clients have a Game Plan with you as their coach. It doesn’t have to be hard to start talking about your coaching in this context. Today’s issue of the CoachVille Member news gives you some immediate tools and language to adopt. If you try it even a little with existing clients you may find it really changes the degree of engagement in your sessions.

Of course, if you want to fully explore the method behind ‘Coaching The Game’ you will be interested in the CoachVille training that starts in just a couple of weeks. The Coach The Game program is simple, quick, and impactful. Be sure to check out the registration details and featured visual aid below. The first 5 people to register for the live program will receive a gift of the ‘Thomas Leonard Follows His Curiosity’ 2 CD set.

Keep playing big!

And, for sure check out the 9 areas of wealth, below. You will either gain tremendous confidence, or, find areas you want to focus on – fast – through support and personal growth, all good things.

To Coach The Game Your Client Wants To Play, A Key Element Is Scanning the 9 Areas of Wealth – Any Coach Can Do It (Excerpt from the Learning Guide for the Coach The Game Program brought to you by CoachVille)

In this part of coaching your client’s winning game, you will get a quick scan of what your player is bringing to the game. This includes their personal resources and their specific desires in 9 different areas. We call these 9 areas the areas of wealth.

Getting to know your player and their situation

A BIG part of your job as a Coach is to REALLY KNOW your player. Even if you will be coaching them in the career or business game, you have to know at least a little bit about their WHOLE life. It is the only way to deliver a truly customized and exceptional service. This part of the conversation begins that process including a few areas that are often real ice breakers.

The basic theory

People play the meaningful games of life for many different reasons. And they can be summarized in the following way: express ourselves and contribute to the community in some way AND create wealth in 9 areas according to our values.

a) to express a passion or a talent
b) to add value to the community in some way
c) to create wealth (in 9 areas); this includes learning which is a kind of wealth

The nine areas of wealth are:

  1. Knowledge: things they have studied; areas of expertise; eg book keeping; auto industry
  2. Talent: natural talents like drawing and learned talents like writing or creating graphics or fixing cars
  3. Experience: things they have done, accomplished, overcome; often work experiences are discussed here; eg. Sales, marketing, negotiation
  4. Character: the players core values and how they have been put into action
  5. Community: connections with people and groups
  6. Spiritual Connection: sense of oneness with all; peace, higher purpose; includes spiritual practices
  7. Financial: assets, investments, cash flow, current activities that generate income, budget, expenses and debts
  8. Relationship: the key people in their life now; in general not exclusively relating to the game; 5-7 people including family, mate, best friends, close working colleagues
  9. Health: energy level, illnesses, body awareness, strength

The three things to explore

  1. For each of the nine areas you will find out what their assets and/or resources are in that area.
  2. Find out if they have a specific objective in this area for the next three months
  3. Ask if anything is urgent in this area right now.

Coach the Game

The Spirit of Play

Coach the Game goes deeply into the pursuit of playing a game better. The program gets to the heart of what most people expect from a coach:

1. The ability to teach them how to play the game better by helping them learn, practice and refine the skills of the game AND

2. The ability to guide them with an effective personalized game plan.

3. The ability to debrief the game to facilitate development and learning.

You must be able to celebrate successes in a way that expands awareness and to debrief losses in a way that promotes growth and restores their desire to get back into the game.

To do these things, you must have a solid knowledge of the game and a clear method for guiding people to the results they desire. Your players trust you to have a way of doing things that is reliable, consistent and grounded in experience. We will help you put this together in this program.
