In session #5 we really delved into our coaching methods.  We continued the challenge of clarity around the game and the method and practiced talking about it.
Let’s collectively face a HUGE truth here: Clarity is TOUGH STUFF.  This is why so few are able to thrive in our profession.

My two  main thoughts for you at this halfway point: 1) KEEP AT IT! and 2) Be EASY with yourself.
Every day on the calls I can here that the clarity is improving.Â
And it comes and goes in waves.  You might feel that it is getting clear, then talk with someone and feel fuzzy again.
This will be a pretty common experience for a little while.

However, EVERY conversation will serve you on your quest for clarity.

FEEDBACK TIME!
I really need to know how this program is going for you.  Please take a few minutes to let me know.

1) How do you feel about your progress so far?

2) Do you have specific thoughts about:Â
the Play books & Forms?
the daily Clearing Exercises?
the REACH OUT exercise?
the in-class dyad and triad exercises?
the overall process?

3) What are your highlights so far?

Your feedback is so important to making this class great.  So I really appreciate you taking the time to share
(especially given all of the energy this class requires!)

if you would prefer to share your thoughts with me privately, send an email to coachdave@coachville.com

Thanks!

    Hi Coach Dave,

I am feeling overwhelmed as Chronic Fatigue is setting in a bit, mostly because I have dramatically changed my sleep schedule to accomodate the class schedule. I am getting the information, though I feel like I have jumped into a raging river without a raft. I have been working mostly on catching up and not freaking out. I put out few messages to class members though have not yet received a reply.
Also have enlisted my girls and friends who act as coaches and who support me always. As far as the River goes I think I’ll make it, if I don’t attempt to swim against the current. Thanks Coach Dave… This is Life Changing Stuff! Am so happy to be a part of.
I really love Play Books and other documents as guides.
    See you in there tomorrow.

Dave, Its been stretching, clarifying, confusing, encouraging and a mixture of other feelings – but that is quite fine. I’ve found the printed material and exercises to be helpful and expected to have to adapt them to my situation.

Getting clear that I have an “approach” coaching midset that allows “playing the game” in a wide range of areas was very helpful. It was not an easy one for me to “get” for some reason. Now, my challenge is to identify “game areas” under that approach (relationships, spiritual quest, financial, healthy lifestyle, social/recreational, vocational/business) and then coach “playing the game” under some of those areas that I am living/have lived well.

I tend to be a “big picture” person so perhaps I am confusing some terminology but it seems we can use “playing the game” models at several levels of our game so there are games within games to play. As I shared Friday, I am playing a “business” game in transitioning my organization into a coaching model but I do not intend to coach others to play that game (maybe 2 years hence :) ). I have coached and played the relationship game, the financial game. and the spiritual quest game. I am playing the healthy lifestyle game, the social/recreational game and the business game. So, under any of game areas would “writing content” be a skill and using a teleclass to deliver the content be a strategy? Then the term “method” includes all the skills, strategies, inner game, and environment in playing that game?

Working from a blank slate where I am starting a coaching practice would seem easier but I’m sure it’s not after talking to some of the class members. Thanks for all your patience and commitment to deliver more than content and abstract theory.

    Hey, D …

    … you asked …

    1. Progress so far – am pleased with the way I am giving myself the gift (in the midst of everything else that’s happening in my life) of time and energy for being part of summer camp! … and I’m happy with the way I’m being gentle with myself along the way – not making it a ‘forced march’ … thanks for the reminders about that! :-)

    2. Playbooks and forms – love them! … particularly helpful was your welcome letter to a new client in PB1 … it served as a trigger for all my inner blocks! … AND because it was so specific, I could see/feel exactly where they were showing up … very cool! …

Clearing exercises – have really appreciated them too … the notion of welcoming all the parts of me isn’t new, but doing so in this context (addressing our relationships with visibility, engagement, fulfillment etc) has been another powerful experience … this one highlighting the ways the inner work I’ve done over the last couple years has really paid off … I am ready to be seen, I am comfortable being known (in my competency and my vulnerability), there’s still a few ‘contrary’ voices around worthiness, and my experience this week has been addressing them … looking forward to the other two! …

The Reach Out exercise was wonderful! … I loved being given ‘permission’ to ask those questions … and I appreciated the answers …

The breakouts into small groups has been very helpful … I’ve appreciated both my partners and the technology (the ability to easily form these breakout groups is the primary reason I’ve invested in a MaestroConference line for myself) …

The overall process has been extraordinary … the intensity of the daily practice means that there’s little ‘leakage’/re-work required in coming back to where we were the previous class … I’ve found participants to have been equally wonderful in their insightful questions and contributions, and your openness to ongoing learning, your encouragement of us to be gentle balanced with your enthusiasm, focus and confidence in the process have all contributed to this having been a great week! …

    3. I’d be hard-pressed to name highlights … the whole experience has been a bit of a ‘rush’ – that’s rush in the ‘good’ sense! :-)

… the other observation I’d like to make is that for me, having played with you around these topics before, and knowing that I’ll be doing so again in September has been really important … the iterative nature of that both allows me to absorb at a ‘deeper’ level than I could/did before, AND has made it easier for me to allow where I’m at this time to be enough … it’s pre-empted any sense of overwhelm that might have been present if I felt I had to ‘get it all’ right now! …

… I’ll be travelling during class time Tuesday and Friday next week, so will have to catch the recordings of those classes – another great resource! … thanks for asking for our reflection, and for creating such a wonderfully rich environment to reflect on! … M

    Hi, Coach Dave,

I’ve had moments of great clarity, elation, healing and challenge.

I LOVE this intensive. The clearing exercises are superb. I’d like to have them all on one page so I can use them easily as affirmations. (I’ll type them myself, but having them as a handout would be nice.)

PlayBook is great and I am absolutely sold on the Maestro Conference technology. I am looking for ways to use it myself in the future. I love the opportunities we have to interact with one another on a more intimate basis.

I’m really happy we’re having an ‘extra session’ tomorrow. I would like to know if we have identified an approach, how do we market to people playing the different games, e.g., one at a time; get good at one game and go on to another, and so forth.

Like some of the others, I may be confusing games with approach, but it is something I have been wrestling with for awhile now. I’m looking forward to more ‘enlightenment.’

One more thing: thanks for reminding us to take it EASY on ourselves. This 800-pound gorilla is a challenge!

    Coach Dave,

The class has been exceptional. As a brand new coach, I can think of no better way to get started. It has been incredible.

I really like the clearing exercises, dyad and such.

The only suggestion would be to continue to integrate a hot seat / modeling component, utilizing Step Up students to fortify the homework assignments.

For example: When you shared your personal answers the questions regarding who you coach. When you had an experienced coach walk through her playbook exercise answers and you got her from general to more focused. Or when you shared an “action” answer from a coach in a dyad and showed how she could tweak it to make it better.

The hotseat component of those in the course is a great addition and is extremely insighful for us all.

By the way, If you need a new coach to be on the hot seat, I am raising my hand now. ;0)

Walking through real life examples of the playbook homework live, with you as the coach, brings greater clarity and reinforces the sharing we do in the dyads and corrects any inaccuracies and confirms where we are on track.

I do believe a hotseat component before (or after) we break into dyads give us a great context AND is a great compliment to the playbook work and the actual work done in dyads/triads.

Out of 10 stars, I give this course an absolute and confident 10.5. It is a MUST – DO for every new coach.

    Your newest coaching protege,

    Coach Brenda B

    1) How do you feel about your progress so far?
So far I’m so relieved to have gained increased clarity around which games I coach and how I have earned the right to coach those games. I can feel my ability to confidently discuss these games increase. I believe that completing the exercises in the playbooks was essential to getting to this point. I’m still unclear about distinguishing between ‘activities’ of the game and ‘skills’ of the game, but I believe this will become clearer as the class progresses.

    2) Do you have specific thoughts about:

the Play books & Forms? SO HELPFUL!!! These are so useful for narrowing your focus and creating specificity. I’ve never done anything like these, and now I can see why I was lacking clarity before doing them.

the daily Clearing Exercises? Love them! It’ so nice to know that the things I struggle with are common for most business owners. They are very helpful.

the REACH OUT exercise? Love it! I’m learning that there are special qualities that I posses that I take for granted, but others think are unique and uncommon.

the in-class dyad and triad exercises? Very helpful and so COOL to be able to break into groups in a teleclass. It’s helpful to hear other coaches feedback and to share mine as well.

the overall process? No complaints, well maybe one. It always seems like the 90 mins goes by so FAST. I’m glad you offered the extended session last week and I’d love to see more offered. It’s very helpful.

    3) What are your highlights so far? So far my highlights are being able to clearly identify my games (Career and Relationships), my main approach and beginning to develop my method. I’m so grateful to have found this class and to “take a chance and enroll!”

  • Coach Virginia said,

    1) How do you feel about your progress so far? I continue to be “vessel” taking it in and applying it to what I am doing. I have had several brealthroughs as well as validations = awesome!

    2) Do you have specific thoughts about:
the Play books & Forms? Truly, these have been honed in such a way as to provide some real guidance and a solid foundation – very cool.

the daily Clearing Exercises? I think these have created an environment of trust, both in ourselves and your authentic self; while serving as a resource/technique for coaches new and familiar.

the REACH OUT exercise? An excellent means of connecting us as a community.

the in-class dyad and triad exercises? Always a benefit to growing our networking and personal relationships environments – making new friends and colleagues to work with – which I have been sorely needing.

the overall process? Dynamic and pushing, but also respecting our “bandwidth” as t. would say… “o) – but also bringing you into our lives, which is a treasure and greatly appreciated.

    3) What are your highlights so far?
My connections with colleagues and opening up new possibilities for my coaching time.

    Coach Dave,

This program has brought me into a new world of coaching and redefined my approaches. I am taking classes at Coach U, which is a solid program but focuses more on the theories. I had never been challenged to answer ‘Have you earned your right to coach?’ However, all doubts, questions and concerns about my ability to coach fall straight into the answer of this big questions – I had never identify my values (but just followed my intuition), let alone having the clarity.

To me, this program is a must-take for anyone who is in the coaching business. It’s so valuable that ROI is well beyond measurable terms.

    1) Play Book – is truly a ‘Play’ book. Without these guidelines, there will be no games. But I also learned not to underestimate these 40 pages, it’s packed with good stuff and may take me a few years to absorb.

    2) Reach Out – is extremely useful to help me I access my values. It has also served to deepen my relationship with people, mostly good friends, I contacted because they had a chance to evaluate our friendship and tell me what I meant to them.

    3) In-class dyad exercise – is a critical part of this class. Thru sharing and discussions with other classmates, it reassured me that I’m not alone in terms of my feelings and experiences. The feedbacks coming from dyad exercises is extremely helpful for me to work and complete the ‘Play better Method’

    4) My highlights – I have learned so much, ‘played’ all week. I am a little ‘exhausted’ from playing so hard without taking a break. The essence of this class is to obtain clarity of our values, identify games and craft game plans. It does take more than 3 days to look inside, dig it out, validate and put it on a piece of paper. Just as I was ‘overwhelmed’ by this seemly simple project and going through ‘Fuzzy -> Clear -> Fuzzy’ process, Coach Dave reminded us from his Blog to ‘Be Easy at yourself’. What a timely reminder!

I want to thank Coach Dave’s for his knowledge, insights, generosity and energy for putting this extremely valuable class together and light the fire within each one of us.

I think this class came at a really good time for many of us. The play book exercises are helping give us more clarity and direction. I really needed both and I am finding this class to be extrermely productive.
My only suggestion is that I find some of the questions repetitive..

Here is the feedback you requested:

    1) How do you feel about your progress so far?
My progress is like the old Paula Abdul song “Two steps forward, one step back”. I go on a run of really positive steps forward, then something happens that sets me back a step or a few steps. Monday to Thursday was fabulous, Friday I hit a major road block that I am still trying to deal with, though some of my colleagues in the class are helping and providing support. I definitely need to reach out to a few more.

    2) Do you have specific thoughts about:
    the Play books & Forms?

The Play book has been great and I would highly recommend it to any coach I came in contact with. The top levels of the playbook are tough, but I have gotten comfortable with most of the ideas. As I delve deeper into my game I am having little crisis here and there as I am not sure I have strategies and skills to teach my clients. I am a new coach and have only three clients. I use certain techniques but I am not sure if they count as skills and strategies.

Going deeper into my game will eventually be the key to my success, I can tell, but right now the going deep is hurting a bit.

    the daily Clearing Exercises?

I have always struggled with the idea of “meditating” but keep on running into it lately and it keeps on working. The clearing exercises have been great (though on Thursday I was so tired I did doze off, one of my challenges with meditation) and have put me in a position that I now want to investigate learning how to meditate and use this skill.

    the REACH OUT exercise?

Hard but powerful. I reached out to five and got responses from three, but they were my three closest friends and their comments touched me at my very core.

the in-class dyad and triad exercises?

Almost entirely successful and a truly positive experience. One not so great experience, but people I met in other calls are helping to support me with this.
    the overall process?

    3) What are your highlights so far?

    Connecting with people.
Working through the playbooks and answering the tough questions.
The temporary feelings of clarity I have experienced so far and know will start to stick.

I am not sure what I am going to do once the calls are over, they have become, in only five days, an important part of my daily actions and something I truly look forward to.

I really appreciate this class. It has kicked up some stuff that I forgot about. I have to say I’m more confused than when I started, but I’m welcoming all of those thoughts to the party.

I’m so grateful to be surrounded by a class full of talented and experienced coaches to learn and grow with. I appreciate everyone’s assistance :) .

I plan on continuously going through the playbook and learning as much as possible. I hope to gain clarity by the end of the class, but I’m happy with my new found awareness in regards to coaching.

    In joy,

    Coach Dave,

Here is the feedback you requested:

    1) How do you feel about your progress so far?

I feel really excited about gaining even more clarity than I had before taking the class. I’m just getting started with my coacing business and this program came at the perfect time. Whew, this program is intense…… and is exactly what I needed to create a solid foundation for my game and the confidence and certainty to get out there in a BIG way.

The clearing exercises are powerful and are focused on the big issues that have been holding me back. I really get the value in welcoming all thoughts and feelings that come along with the powerful statements that we are declaring. These exercises are expanding my awareness and possibility to choose and I love that!!! Insight – When I’m holding the tension of the opposites I get to choose and this makes my choice even more powerful.

The Reach out exercise is so valuable and has created a lot more certainty in my life on knowing the unique value I bring to the world. I’ve done this exercise a few times and each time I get a lot of clarification and confirmation.

I have tremendously enjoyed the dyad, triad experience on the calls. This adds even more value to the program and creates great connection with others.

I love the handouts and the playbook. This is fabulous information to create a winning foundation for the game. It is especially helpful because I can tend to be a little abstract with my process and this gives me great structure and specification. It really helps balance that for me and this is powerful.

The play better method is beautiful….I love how it all comes together.

I am on fire about the Inspirational Economy and love how this ties into coaching and my game. Thank you for your brillant contribution in bringing this to all of us.

  • Coach Lynn said,

Hi Dave & everyone in the class,

I am so thrilled to be a part of this experience for the two weeks. It is intense and I have been conscious of keeping it in the realm of playful learning.

This is my first experience of a Coachville teleseminar and of Coach Dave in a coaching capacity. I really appreciate how Dave holds the space for learning, delves underneath the surface to go deeper with people, and challenges us to be more visible.

I believe I have received tremendous value from the breadth of material and the delivery of the material. The clearing sessions live inside me still continuing to do their work. I realized that I haven’t been talking to the right people for the game I want to be coaching. I am getting tons of clarity around what I offer in the game I want to coach and have experience in.

The reaching out exercise and the visibilty concept both contained big ahas for me. I am also very impressed with the conference system and the ability to create dyads and triads.

Thanks to everyone for all that you shared and especially to Dave for the gift of this teleseminar and teaching us how to better articulate the game(s) we coach and play.

  • Coach Davette said,

Hi Coach Dave and to the rest of the coaches that are sharing this challenging yet amazing intensive journey,

Coach Dave, you mentioned that every coach should re-visit this course, at least every two to three years. I think it should be at least every year. Although I recently finished the business academy course, the Stand Up and Stand Out course is making me revisit some of what I had already defined as being clear.

The course is also taking us through the thought processes of what we offer and what our clients would need a little deeper as we prepare to take our clarity that we have gained over the course of last week out into the world. Love it!!!

    1) How do you feel about your progress so far? I feel great about the progress because I have further defined my method and believe it is an authentic approach that would serve both my clients and I.

    2) Do you have specific thoughts about:
the Play books & Forms? It was amazing how the playbook and forms took on a whole new light during this intensive.
the daily Clearing Exercises? The clearing exercisizes were powerful.
the REACH OUT exercise? I have to confess, I havn’t had a chance to do this yet. However, I promise I will.
the in-class dyad and triad exercises? I enjoy the dyads, it is always wonderful to meet members of the team that are playing the same game of trying to perfect their craft. It provides a space for connecting on a relevant level with someone that is at the same place as you.
the overall process? Awesome, I might just take it next time too!!! What can I say, I like the process, I like your style, I like the challenge, I like the experience. I like it : )

    3) What are your highlights so far?

My highlight was how the playing a better method form popped for me as a template for designing the delivery of my services. I admit that I am a hybrid coach that seeks to incorporate all that I makes me, me into my delivery of service. But, what I have acquired through this course is (1) clarity on what I offer, (2) confidence that what I offer, and who I offer it to, is what is sought for and needed, (3) a method that addressess the key areas of the game that would assess my clients with playing better and (4) clearing excersizes that allows me to embrace all that I am, all that I strive to be, the critics, the challenges and use them all to empower me to coach and play my game bigger and better. And last but not least, to stay true to the game!

    Enough said : )

    Thanks for everything Coach Dave!

    Coach Davette

  • Edris said,

    Dave,

I’m grateful for the course and all the people in it. So much willingness to learn and share!! I love all the tools – I only wish I could take it a bit slower as there is so much to “get.” But this is definitely helping me clarify my thinking.

In the breakout sessions, can we have a little more time? It seems we just get started and the time is up. Also, a little more focus on the game in the beginning would be helpful. I missed your email about the extra session today so I will have to listen to the recording.

I’ve been a bit more distracted than I had hoped by some major family issues so I haven’t accomplished as much of the playbook as I would like but that that I’ve completed has served as a definite catalyst. I’m finding, however, that I will need much more study time to really get this, but I am aware that this is the foundation for my future business so I am so grateful for these tools! No wonder I was floundering before, without being able to answer these questions! At least now I know I have a life ring to aid me in swimming to shore.

    Thank you so much,

    Edris
